To understand delirium fully requires us to understand fully the patient’s world: physical, environmental, social, and intrapsychic. The concept of multidetermination is as applicable to delirium as to symptom or dream formation. We will begin by looking at the syndrome in general terms, and then turn to the specific situations in the general hospital where delirium is most likely to occur. (75 pp.)
